Narrative Essay 1: Hallucinations Or Truth?

Based on true events

It is quite difficult to change the thinking of an adamant person like me. Ghosts, spirits and sixth sense for me was nothing but the superstitious beliefs of stupid people. I’ve heard many such stories from my colleagues and honestly, it seemed like a heap of negativity which has no existence. However, this incident completely changed my point of view on paranormal activities.

It was 3:15 in the day when I woke up from an hour long nap. My eyes wide opened as I realized the time. I was only able to concentrate on thoughts which asked me to get up and complete my homework. However, my lazy innerself denied to do so and I spent another 15 minutes switching my positions on bed. It was about half past three when I woke up and sat straight, determined to complete my work. I tied my hair up and picked a glass of water. I gulped the water as fast as I could and stood up. At that moment of time, I completely knew what I was doing and was fully conscious. I decided to go to the study room as my mother was awake. I didn’t know but my legs automatically made their way towards the wall, even though my mind wanted me to go out of the room. I stood there with the support of wall as my mother stared at me because the things I did were quiet odd. I stood there numb, not knowing how to move my body. My gaze struck the window and maybe, my eyes forgot that they had to blink. All I heard at that moment of time was my mother shouting my name. Her tone seemed like my actions were a huge concern. My mind could only try and think of the reason why my mother was screaming. My hands started to shiver and I had no control, how to stop my shivering hands. My feet became stiff as I tried to move. I didn’t knew what was happening with me. I flinched and came back to senses when I heard a feminine voice whistling in my ear. The voice was deep and husky, which surely did not belong to my mother. Who would have whistled when there were only two females in the entire house. I screamed on the top of my lungs and started to take long and deep breaths. I looked around me and found no one. My father, who was sitting in the next room came inside and asked me, “Why were you crying? I also heard someone banging the floor.”

A total frown appeared on my face as I heard my parents conversing. My mother said that I was the one who was crying and banging the floor with my legs. That was why she was shouting after seeing me standing with support of the wall. But according to me, I had no control on my body parts and I showed no movement. I just stood there, with my gaze fixed. How is it possible that I showed no movement and my mind was not able to control the movement of my body; and my mother had seen me crying and banging the floor. If I would have been unconscious, I wouldn’t have remembered any details from the incident. But I was conscious because I remembered each and every detail after I woke up. That’s very true that both of us witnessed the moment; but how is it possible for her to see something and for me to feel something else. I was terrified. I stuttered yet managed to speak,

“Why were you w-whistling mom?”

“Who was whistling? I was not whistling.”

And that was taking the hell out of me. Who whistled in my ear if my mother did not? I am sure it wasn’t a hallucination

We are aware of every task we perform while we are conscious. And if we are not, then that’s very obvious that we are either unconscious or in sleep. But what about me? I was neither in sleep nor was I fully conscious, according to my mother. Or was it an action of an unknown presence which controlled me and managed to whistle?
